Democratic Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden on Sunday said he was “not at this point” comfortable with John Brennan keeping his job as director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
“I want to give him the chance to end this culture of denial … if he doesn’t do that, we’re going to have to get somebody who will,” Wyden said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
Wyden was one of the leading advocates for the release of the “torture” report compiled by Senate Democrats, a document Brennan said lacked input from the CIA.
Though Brennan said the agency erred at times in administering the harsh interrogations, he insisted such methods protected the homeland from terrorist strikes.
The White House has stood behind Brennan in the face of controversy, saying the CIA official has the “full confidence” of the president.
With the White House already attempting to replace Chuck Hagel as secretary of defense, it is unlikely to seek the ouster of another major player on the president’s national security team.
