Gingrich touts ‘national appeal’ amid VP rumors

Newt Gingrich touted his “national appeal” on Facebook Live Thursday afternoon amid rumors that Donald Trump is leaning toward Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as he prepares to announce the identity of his running mate Friday morning.

“I have some appeal in virtually every state,” Gingrich said, adding that Pence brings more of a “Midwest appeal.”

Gingrich described the intensity of the vice presidential vetting process he and Pence faced. He said a questionnaire he was asked to complete consisted of 113 questions and noted he was told to submit copies of his tax returns.

The former House speaker vowed to conduct many more Facebook Live question-and-answer sessions if he is chosen as Trump’s running mate, and said he would encourage Pence to do the same if Trump selects the Hoosier State governor.

“If I am the nominee, I’ll be a nominee with Facebook Live,” Gingrich said. “Like you, I’m looking forward to the next 24 hours.”
