Chicago-area educator gets White House honor

CHICAGO (AP) — An educator at the Chicago Zoological Society is one of 12 people being honored by the White House as museum and library “Champions of Change.”

David Becker is the senior manager of learning experiences at the nonprofit group that manages the Brookfield Zoo. He works with a program called NatureStart that’s geared toward children

The White House says it’s holding a ceremony on Tuesday to recognize people like Becker for “providing powerful learning experiences” for children and their families.

He’s the only Illinoisan being recognized.
