Border Patrol seizes $4.5 million of marijuana from one vehicle

Border Patrol agents in Laredo, Texas, seized $4.6 million worth of marijuana from a vehicle that had attempted to pass through the Interstate Highway 35 checkpoint from Mexico on Thursday, according to a press release issued late Friday.

A K-9 unit alerted agents of possible narcotics or humans concealed inside a cargo tank being pulled by a Kenworth tractor, which a subsequent X-Ray scan of the vehicle confirmed.

Border officials confiscated 216 bundles of pot, weighing in at more than 5,734 pounds of drugs. The confiscated drugs were later confirmed to be marijuana.

“I commend our Border Patrol agents for their continued dedication, vigilance and hard work they perform daily to protect our borders,” Chief Patrol Agent Mario Martinez said in a statement.

The driver, marijuana and vehicle have been turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
