Ruth Bader Ginsburg hospitalized for ‘possible infection’

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was admitted to Johns Hopkins Hospital for treatment for a “possible infection.”

Ginsburg, 87, was suffering a fever and chills prior to her admission to a hospital in Washington D.C., on Tuesday, according to a statement from the Supreme Court. She was later transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

“Justice Ginsburg was admitted to The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland early this morning for treatment of a possible infection. She was initially evaluated at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. last night after experiencing fever and chills,” the court stated.

“She underwent an endoscopic procedure at Johns Hopkins this afternoon to clean out a bile duct stent that was placed last August. The justice is resting comfortably and will stay in the hospital for a few days to receive intervenous antibiotic treatment,” the court added.

Ginsburg was hospitalized at Johns Hopkins for a few days in May to receive nonsurgical treatment for a gallbladder infection. The justice has battled both colon cancer and pancreatic cancer over the past two decades since she joined the bench.

The Supreme Court, for the first time in its history, began hearing arguments via teleconference when the coronavirus pandemic began earlier this year.
