Two U.S. drones crashed in the Middle East during the past week, a Defense Department spokesman said Wednesday.
Col. Steve Warren, a spokesman for Operation Inherent Resolve, said the drones involved in both incidents are back under U.S. control.
In the first incident, a Predator crew reported that it had lost its link with the drone on Saturday and, subsequently, that the drone had crashed southeast of Baghdad in Iraq. The aircraft was recovered by Iraqi police and returned to the coalition, Warren said.
The second incident occurred on Monday when a different Predator crashed in southern Turkey. Operators were able to maintain control of the drone to land it in an unpopulated area.
No one was injured in either crash and the causes are under investigation, Warren said.
