Donald Trump, along with Ivanka and Donald Jr., subpoenaed by NY attorney general

New York Attorney General Letitia James subpoenaed former President Donald Trump and his two adult children, Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr., on Thursday.

The court filing asks for the testimony of the three Trumps in connection with a civil investigation into the family’s business practices, specifically testimonies and documents “in connection with an investigation into the valuation of properties owned or controlled” by Trump and his company, the Trump Organization.” The court filing was issued Thursday but was not made public until Monday.

“OAG (attorney general) will oppose any motion to quash or for related relief within 14 days of the filing of the motion,” the court filing reads. “OAG will file any cross motion to enforce its Subpoenas to the Individual Trump Parties, and will file any necessary amendments to the pleadings, simultaneously with the filing of any opposition to the motion to quash.”

The order allows the Trumps to file “any reply on the motion to quash or for related relief and opposition to any cross motion to compel within 14 days of the filing of the opposition and cross motion.” The order also allows James to file a reply on the cross motion within seven days of the filing of the opposition to the cross motion.

The subpoena comes two weeks after Trump filed a lawsuit on Dec. 20, 2021, to stop James from investigating his businesses. The former president’s lawsuit claimed James’s mission is “guided solely by political animus and a desire to harass, intimidate, and retaliate against a private citizen who she views as a political opponent.”

James, known for overseeing the report that precipitated the resignation of former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, suspended her gubernatorial bid for the New York governorship on Dec. 9. She will instead seek reelection for her current position.

“For more than two years, members of the Trump family and the Trump Organization have continually sought to delay and impede our investigation into Donald Trump and the Trump Organization, but despite their names, they must play by the same rules as everyone else. These delay tactics will not stop us from following the facts or the law, which is why we will be asking the court to compel Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Ivanka Trump to testify with our office under oath. Our investigation will continue undeterred,” James said in a statement.
