MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Retired Energen Senior Vice president Brunson White has been appointed secretary of Information in the administration of Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley.

Bentley said Monday he is appointing White to the cabinet-level position that was created by a bill that passed the Alabama Legislature earlier this year.

Bentley says White will help organize the state’s information technology programs so they run more efficiently and securely. The governor says he hopes the information technology program will save the state money.

White worked for Energen in Birmingham for 33 years. Over that time, he was responsible for about $100 million in information technology projects.

As secretary of information technology, White will develop and implement a plan to coordinate the use of information technology across state agencies.
