Congress isn’t too polarized for hand-holding.
At Tuesday’s Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony, leaders from both chambers along with other members joined hands during the singing of “We Shall Overcome.”
While the action was intended to be serious, the scene is just too hysterical.
For starters, having House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and Speaker of the House John Boehner holding hands and singing under the same roof is just phenomenal theater. Truly priceless.
And if that’s not enough, each member’s reaction throughout definitely is.
While Pelosi started off singing strong, a panning of the camera soon caught her off-track. Seen biting her lip, she just nodded along. Boehner mumbled a few lines, with the occasional smile. He seemed to sense the awkwardness.
Reid actually seemed to be in harmony with the music, unlike his Senate cohort. McConnell just gave that goofy grin of his the entire time.
Sources haven’t said whether each member rushed to wash their hands following the event.
The video is below. Good luck not breaking out in hysterical laughter.
