Annapolis bridge under inspection

The bridge carrying Compromise Street over Spa Creek in Annapolis will be inspected by state officials, causing possible traffic delays.

The 62-year-old, two-lane drawbridge will be reduced to one lane between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. until Tuesday.

The State Highway Administration said the inspection is routine checkup of the mechanisms of the drawbridge, which is raised 3,000 times a year.

In 1998, SHA shut the bridge down for repairs. The span connects downtown Annapolis to Eastport and the city?s southern communities. That led to a “revolt” against Annapolis, and the creation of the mock Maritime Republic of Eastport to promote the community during the bridge closure.
