Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., in the midst of grandstanding over the recent security incident at Newark Airport, said that the man who walked past an absent, inattentive TSA agent did “a terrible injustice.” Afterward, when a bystander reported the breach, TSA forced the evacuation of the entire airport, putting some ten thousand people back into the security line.
But who did the real injustice — the guy who walked the wrong way at the airport, or the agent who wasn’t doing his job? And more to the point, doesn’t the real injustice lie with the stupid agency that requires an entire airport to be evacuated just because someone reportedly walked the wrong way?
As my Thursday column asks, isn’t there a better way than our current TSA?
