Japanese supporters of Trump march in the streets of Tokyo

Japanese supporters of President Trump marched down the streets of Tokyo in support of the president’s election challenge.

Organizers of the march said that about 1,000 people participated, many of whom could be seen waving American flags and Trump signs. Other protesters waved the Japanese “Rising Sun” flag, which was the symbol used by Japan’s military during World War II.

The protesters also had signs disputing the election result, repeating claims by Trump that the election was stolen from him due to voter irregularities and fraud.

The march came just a few hours after Trump supporters in the United States held a Washington, D.C., rally in which the president laid out claims of voter fraud and expressed hope Vice President Mike Pence would help overturn the election results during the certification process.

Trump’s supporters began marching toward the Capitol after the president finished his remarks. Some people ended up storming the building and gaining entry. Lawmakers who were debating certification were forced to evacuate, and law enforcement did not regain control of the situation for several hours.

The chaos in the Capitol building led to the fatal shooting of 35-year-old Ashli Elizabeth Babbitt, while three others died in what police attributed to “medical emergencies.”

Lawmakers reentered the Capitol early Thursday morning and eventually voted to certify the election results without any additional objections, while Trump pledged to allow an orderly transition of power even though he still expressed disagreement with the election outcome.
