‘Handsome devils’: White House goes maskless as Biden moves on from COVID

White House press secretary Jen Psaki welcomed a newly maskless Brady briefing room Thursday afternoon, just days after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention loosened its mask guidance.

“It’s so nice to see everybody’s beautiful faces!” she said to laughter in the room, before naming individual reporters. “Steve Holland, David Sanger. Just calling out some especially beautiful faces in the room. Yes. Handsome devils.”

DEMOCRATS URGED TO MOVE ON FROM COVID AS CDC EASES MASK GUIDANCE

The White House is the latest Democratic-controlled place to make masks optional as a wave of loosened restrictions washed over blue America in recent weeks. Public polling precipitated the moves as the public reported wariness of mandated masks, vaccines, closures, capacity restrictions, and other virus-related government moves.

As with the State of the Union, most reporters immediately chose to show their faces inside the small room where briefings take place. A few did choose to continue masking, however.

Research released last week from a well-known Democratic firm urged the party’s candidates and elected officials to talk about moving on from the virus — and how their policies have made it safe to do so.

“It’s time for Democrats to take credit for ending the COVID crisis phase of the COVID war, point to important victories like vaccine distribution and providing economic stability to Americans, and fully enter the rebuilding phase that comes after,” the Impact Research document reads.

The CDC’s relaxed guidance was released the following day.
