The United States Navy Memorial announced the recipients of the 2011 Lone Sailor Award on Tuesday. This year’s honorees include an Academy Award-winning actor and a star of Washington wonk. The winners included Jeff Bridges (who won the Oscar for best actor in 2009 for his role in “Crazy Heart”) along with his actor brother Beau, both of whom served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Their father Lloyd, who served in the Coast Guard during World War II, will be honored posthumously.
Brian Lamb, founder and chief executive officer of C-SPAN, will also take home an honor. During his years in the Navy, Lamb served at the White House under President Lyndon B. Johnson and in the Pentagon public affairs office during the Vietnam War. Other honorees include former Yankees second baseman Jerry Coleman and MLB Hall of Famer Bob Feller.
