Shep Smith presses Puerto Rico governor to name ‘one’ supporter

Fox News anchor Shep Smith pushed Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselló to name “one” supporter that wants him to remain in office during an interview on the network Monday afternoon.

The interview come amid days of protests in the streets of Puerto Rico calling for his resignation despite him having refused to do so thus far. Rosselló has faced those calls after leaked conversations between him and multiple government officials revealed incendiary and unprofessional conversations.

“This is the biggest recovery effort and United States history,” the governor said, after being asked about government corruption. “It’s important to state that we have the biggest step program in the United States for homes. The [inspector general] came over here, the federal IG, and they established that nothing went wrong on that program. There are a lot of efforts we have been doing now. If you want to drain the swamp you need to tackle those problems.”

“Governor, who has come forward to support you in the middle of this chaos?” Smith asked.

“There are folks that have supported me,” Rosselló responded.

“Specifically?” Smith asked. “Can you give me one name? Just one name, governor.”

“I’ve talked to people from different groups. A lot of people from the administration,” the governor added.

The anchor pushed, “Governor, you are not able to give me one name in Puerto Rico who supports you continuing as governor? Is that correct?”

“I can. So the mayor of San Sebastián, for example, supported this effort,” Rosselló answered.

Smith then asked for a name.

He said, “Javier Jimenez, for example. There are other folks that have established people in the legislature and people in the Senate, as well, have supported the state. They have supported the fact that I will not run and I shouldn’t seek reelection, but they have established it’s important to follow the rule of law. So there is support Shep.”
