Republicans quickly approved legislation to cut funding to the IRS, preserve the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve, and protect babies that survive abortion in their first moves of the new majority. They also named new leaders of powerful committees that will conduct oversight of the Biden administration.

The first order of business for the House Judiciary Committee will be investigating the stunning discovery of classified documents in President Joe Biden’s private office and home, which prompted Attorney General Merrick Garland to appoint a special counsel on Thursday.
The classified document saga weakened Biden before an expected 2024 announcement, as Democrats (and some Republicans) have deemed former President Donald Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents and the related special counsel investigation as among the reasons he’s unfit for office.
