‘They hung up on me’: Iowa Democratic Party hangs up on county caucus secretary on live TV

DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowa Democrat Shawn Sebastian was on hold for an hour to report his precinct’s caucus results.

Sebastian, Story County’s caucus secretary, was telling CNN about issues he was experiencing with the Iowa Democratic Party’s new mobile application to file his site’s delegate allocations to headquarters when he finally got through to officials.

CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer asked whether he could broadcast the conversation live on TV when Sebastian encountered another snafu.

“They hung up on me,” he said on-air.

Earlier on Monday night, Sebastian, frustrated by the process, resorted to Twitter to convey what happened at his precinct.

The Iowa Democratic Party has chalked up the delay to conducting “quality control” and that the wait was “out of an abundance of caution.”
