Angela Lansbury dead: Murder, She Wrote and Beauty and the Beast star dies at 96

Legendary theater, movie, and television actress Dame Angela Lansbury has died at the age of 96.

“The children of Dame Angela Lansbury are sad to announce that their mother died peacefully in her sleep at home in Los Angeles at 1:30 AM today, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, just five days shy of her 97th birthday,” a statement from her family read.

Lansbury’s illustrious career spanned decades. The five-time Tony Award winner was also given the lifetime achievement award in June, but she was not in attendance for the event.

On television, Lansbury is best known for playing Jessica Fletcher on Murder, She Wrote, which ran on CBS from 1984 to 1996.

In 2014, Lansbury was made a ‘Dame Commander’ by the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The actress is survived by her three children, (Anthony, Deirdre, and David), three grandchildren (Peter, Katherine, and Ian), as well as five great-grandchildren and her brother, producer Edgar Lansbury. Her husband of 53 years, Peter Shaw, had died before her, the family statement added.
