President Trump will spend the month of February commemorating Black History Month, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said on Wednesday.
“The president has events planned throughout the month,” Spicer said, noting that Trump planned to issue a proclamation in honor of the historic month later Wednesday.
Spicer highlighted the African-American “listening session” Trump had attended earlier in the day, as well as the post office’s issuance of a stamp dedicated to civil rights leader Dorothy Height.
“At events throughout this entire month, we will celebrate the contributions of courageous African-American leaders from Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass to Martin Luther King Jr. and Clarence Thomas,” Spicer said.
“African-American history is American history, and this month is a great reminder of that,” he added.
