Donald Trump debuted a new attack line against Hillary Clinton Saturday, telling a crowd in Lynden, Wash. that the former Secretary of State wants to “take your guns away.”
“Hillary Clinton wants to abolish the Second Amendment, she wants to abolish it,” Trump said. “Hillary Clinton wants to take your guns away, she wants to abolish the Second Amendment, she wants to take the bullets away, she wants to take it. We’re going to protect the Second Amendment.”
It’s the first time Trump has hit Clinton on gun control as he slowly pivots to the general election. The new line was stuck between some of Trump’s more usual lines, such as building a wall on the border with Mexico and reliving his primary victories, especially over former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham.
Clinton has called for reform of the nation’s gun laws to prevent gun violence but has stopped short of removing the Second Amendment from the Constitution. On her website, Clinton’s position is stated as strengthening background checks to close loopholes, holding “irresponsible” gun dealers and manufacturers accountable and keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and terrorists.
During his speech, Trump also reiterated his attacks on Clinton’s marriage that he made earlier in the day in Spokane, Wash. and added that he believes she’s going to be indicted for her email scandal.
However, the system is “rigged” so she probably won’t, Trump added.
“She’s guilty as Hell. The question is are the Democrats going to make it possible for her to run?” Trump said.
