Deep-pocketed Republicans who are looking to contribute to Donald Trump’s general election campaign may soon have an avenue to do so, senior campaign adviser Barry Bennett said Tuesday.
“I have a feeling that the solution will be found very quickly,” Bennett told Fox News’ Gretchen Carlson when asked where GOP mega-donors like Sheldon Adelson, who recently said he’s willing to invest up to $100 million in the presumptive Republican nominee’s campaign, should send their money.
“We’re all marching forward without clear direction at this point,” veteran GOP operative Ed Rollins, who recently signed on to help the pro-Trump Great America super PAC, told the Washington Post over the weekend.
“I think that the team well above my pay-grade is working on that as we speak and I think that it will all become very clear very fast,” Bennett said.
Despite repeatedly knocking his Republican rivals during the primary for having super PACs support their candidacies, Trump will likely reverse course in the coming weeks to allow outside groups to solicit cash and supply the resources he will need to compete against the Democratic nominee.
“He has self-funded the primary and now that the primary is over and we’re headed to the general … There is money to be raised for the RNC, for the convention, for all kinds of things, so we’ll start traditional fundraising for those,” Bennet told Carlson.
