Prosecutors have dropped charges against a Missouri teacher who allegedly had sexual relations with her student after the two became married.
Sarcoxie High School English teacher Baylee Turner, 26, was charged in 2019 with allegedly having sexual contact with one of her male students. But since she has married the student, the prosecution has become too difficult due to spousal privilege, according to assistant prosecutor Nate Dally.

Dally told the Joplin Globe that without the compelled testimony of the student, who is now protected from having to testify against his wife, the state’s charges would be too hard to prove in court. It is not clear when they became married.
The age of the student was not revealed, though any sexual contact between students and educators is illegal in Missouri. Turner surrendered her teaching license during the proceedings, which Dally said was the primary concern for prosecutors.
