Key Trump ally Newt Gingrich said that the president-elect’s supporters would be “enormously disappointed” if he elevated Mitt Romney to “any position of authority.”
Gingrich’s comments on “Fox & Friends” in a segment unveiled Sunday echo other Trump allies, including Kellyanne Conway, on the potential pick of Romney as the secretary of state. Reports say that Romney is a front-runner for the position, as is stalwart Trump ally Rudy Giuliani.

Gingrich criticized Romney as someone who didn’t support Trump during the campaign.
“I think there is nothing Romney can say that doesn’t sound phony or pathetic,” he said, adding that he would nevertheless support whoever Trump picks.
During the campaign, Romney called Trump a phony and a fraud.
Conway said during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” that a number of people would “feel betrayed” if Romney got a prominent post.
