Eagles accuse Landry of spitting, disrespect

The trouble started before the game, with the Eagles pointing out one player as the culprit: Redskins safety LaRon Landry.

Then it continued during the game, with Philadelphia again singling out one guy. Once more, it was Landry.

First, it was his words. Next it was his saliva, which the Eagles said he deposited on the center Mike McGlynn.

He said Landry spit on him twice after extra points.

“That really fired us all up,” McGlynn told reporters in the Eagles locker room afterward. “It’s good to come out and score 60 points almost. We all want to play the game with all the respect in the world. When people come in and disrespect like that, I think you’ve got to be more respectful. That’s just a terrible thing. I think we just looked at it as, ‘Hey, let’s keep pouring it on.’ “

Then there was the pre-game skirmish.

More McGlynn: “A guy tried to come over and intimidate us. It was No. 30 again. He said some things to our star player [receiver DeSean Jackson] he shouldn’t have said and he got his. You can see on that first play, he got his.”

But Landry denied the spitting allegations. And that he was at the center of what started a square-off between the teams before the Eagles headed back to the locker room.

“Oh, wow,” Landry said about the spitting incident. “Hey man, I’m not that type of player. I’m aggressive, I’m not that type of player. Before the game started, you say something to me, I say something back. But the spitting and everything? That’s bad football.”

He would not say what was said to Jackson.

“Me and DeSean was talking, but they took it to another level,” Landry said. “When everyone was going at each other, I wasn’t even around the crowd. I was way off.”

Jackson said, “There were some disrespectful things said, but I am not going to get into it. Sometimes I think these football players take football too seriously and what he said was disrespectful.

“The pre-game altercation got it going. We came back in the locker room and were ready to go. We were like pit bulls.”

Jackson got the last shot in – and it came on the first play. Landry misplayed Jackson’s deep post into an 88-yard touchdown. Jackson had one more catch the rest of the game, for 10 yards.

“ We knew Landry and the type of player he is,” Jackson said. “When they play us, we are always aware that they play so far back.”

Said Landry, “[Michael Vick] rolled away from me and I thought DeSean was jogging and I didn’t think he was coming back to him and he took off and got behind me.”
