Jury selection is continuing Tuesday to chose the panel that will decide the fate of Brittany Norwood, accused of killing her co-worker at the Lululemon Athletica in Bethesda earlier this year.
Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Robert Greenberg and attorneys in the case are interviewing prospective jurors individually based on their responses to questions asked in court Monday.
The individual questioning is taking place in Greenberg’s chambers and is not public.
Norwood is on trial in the March 11 slaying of 30-year-old Jayna Murray. Prosecutors say she beat Murray to death, then posed as a victim to cover up the killing.
Nearly 300 prospective jurors were summoned for the case. Twelve jurors and five alternates will be selected.
The first half of those jurors are now being questioned. The others were instructed to report to the courthouse this afternoon.
The publicity surrounding the case has already emerged as a key issue: Nearly all of the 149 potential jurors who began being questioned yesterday said they had heard of the case.
The jurors were also asked whether seeing graphic photographs during the trial would make it difficult to render an impartial verdict, whether they had ever shopped at the Bethesda Lululemon and if they were acquainted with Lululemon employees.
