Washington and the political class are as excited as Hollywood on Oscar night. It’s the … State of the Union. Which is to say … another partisan political speech, only longer.
Unsurprisingly, the public isn’t buying what the speech will be selling and probably won’t be watching anyway.
Among the latest Rasmussen findings:
* Just 17% of Likely U.S. Voters think the president should focus on new spending programs in his latest State of the Union speech. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 68% believe the president should focus instead on programs that can be accomplished within current spending levels. …
* 64% of voters say they are at least somewhat likely to watch or follow news reports about the president’s latest State of the Union speech. That’s down from 72% last year and a high of 79% in January 2011. The latest finding includes 39% who are Very Likely to watch or follow news reports about the speech.

So, let them have their fun. Just as long as they don’t play with matches.
