Injury likely ends season for ?05 top pick

A difficult season for Orioles? 2005 first-round draft pick Brandon Snyder got worse recently when a magnetic resonance imaging test revealed a tear in his left (non-throwing) shoulder. Orioles director of minor league operations David Stockstill confirmed the test results Wednesday and said Snyder, a catcher, will seek a second opinion before moving forward with treatment options.

“Brandon tried to play through the pain, but the injury was probably worse than he was letting on,” Stockstill said.

The injury likely means that Snyder?s season is over. The organization had high hopes for Snyder this year, but he batted just .194 at Single-A Delmarva before being demoted to Aberdeen in June. He then batted .234 with a homer and 43 strikeouts for the short-season New York-Penn League team.

OTTAWA LYNX (61-56)

Pitcher Brian Burres was 10-4 with a 3.19 ERA and ranked sixth in the International League with 99 strikeouts through Wednesday. Ottawa was sixth in the 14-team league with 774 strikeouts from its pitching staff.

BOWIE BAYSOX (52-62)

Left-hander Brian Forystek gives Bowie a solid relief option. He was 5-1 with a 2.89 ERA in 35 appearances. Bowie entered Wednesday ranked fifth in the 12-team Eastern League with a 3.66 team ERA.

FREDERICK KEYS (23-23)

Infielder Paco Figueroa is helping lead the Keys? second-half resurgence, batting .296 while leading the Carolina League with 19 stolen bases. The Keys entered Wednesday in a statistical tie with Wilmington for first place in the league?s Northern Division.

DELMARVA SHOREBIRDS

Infielder Ryan Finan has developed into one of the better power hitters of the South Atlantic League. Through Wednesday, he was tied for fifth in the league in home runs (15) and tied for eighth in RBI (63).

ABERDEEN IRONBIRDS (24-25)

Stockstill said that the Orioles and IronBirds have reached an agreement to extend their affiliation through the 2010 season.

BLUEFIELD ORIOLES (22-26)

Pitcher Zach Clark entered Wednesday third in the Appalachian League with a 1.70 ERA through nine starts, including last Friday, when he gave up one run on six hits and struck out seven in seven innings in a 6-1 win over Kingsport.
