Parking in Columbia over Memorial Day weekend was a cinch, despite fears that the HFStival rock concert and a
250-team soccer tournament would crowd local lots and jam traffic.
Merriweather Post Pavilion was expected to house 8,000 more guests than its normal capacity for the HFStival.
Low ticket sales, which hovered below 20,000, lessened the effect on Columbia parking and traffic.
Participants in a 250-team soccer tournament that spanned the weekend were warned to leave early and scramble for parking at Columbia locations, including Howard Community College and Long Reach High School.
However, ample parking was available.
“We were worried about the HFStival, but it wasn?t a problem. It?s been a beautiful day,” said
Tom Reges, a field marshal at Howard Community College, which housed three fields for the tournament.
Soccer players had two hours between games, and many visited the Mall in Columbia during the downtime.
“It was easy to get to the mall between games,” said Mack Morrison, who traveled from Flemington, N.J., to see his son play in the event.
