Progressive group targets three House Republicans with ad featuring crying immigrant children

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee is expanding an ad buy featuring audio of crying immigrant children to three competitive House districts.

The liberal action group is targeting three Republicans: Rep. Mimi Walters of California, Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska and Rep. Kevin Yoder of Kansas. All three races lean Republican, according to nonpartisan election trackers.

The 30-second ad, which first started airing in Washington, D.C., last week, opens with a black screen and sounds of a 6-year-old Salvadoran girl crying in a detention facility. The audio was obtained by ProPublica and has also been used by billionaire Tom Steyer in a nationwide ad buy hitting President Trump as “lawless.” The PCCC ad ends with a question.

“This is Trump’s America. Is it yours?” is the text displayed across the screen. “Remember in November…”

PCCC is specifically trying to reach suburban mothers with the ad, airing it on networks like HGTV, Oxygen, Bravo, and Lifetime. The ad will start airing in California on a Tuesday, in Nebraska on Wednesday, and in Kansas on Thursday.

“We must use the high public energy right now to hold Trump and every Republican who enables him accountable,” Adam Green, co-founder of PCCC, said in a statement to the Washington Examiner. “Now and through November. Instead of allowing Trump to define himself as a hero, we must hold his recent actions around the neck of every single Republican in Congress.”

Democrats have tried to continue their united front on Trump’s zero tolerance policy toward illegal border crossings. They’ve traveled to detention facilities housing children for the second straight weekend last week.
