Trump expresses condolences after ‘horrible’ attack in France: ‘We grieve the nation’s loss’

President Trump expressed his condolences to the people of France on Saturday after a gunman allegedly affiliated with the Islamic State fatally shot three people and wounded 16 others inside a grocery store located in Aude.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of the horrible attack in France yesterday, and we grieve the nation’s loss. We also condemn the violent actions of the attacker and anyone who would provide him support. We are with you @EmmanuelMacron!” Trump tweeted from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla.

French officials identified the shooter as 24-year-old Redouane Lakdim and said he was killed by police who responded to the incident.

The shooter hijacked a car, drove to the grocery store, then killed a butcher inside the Super U Trebes. He then opened fire on a group of police who had just finished a run.

He then barricaded himself in the store. Witnesses said he pledged allegiance to the Islamic State and yelled “Allah Akbar.”

French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe on Friday said it “seems to be a terrorist act.”
