Rubio dismisses poor Saturday results, looks ahead

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio dismissed poor showings from Saturday night’s voting, arguing that other candidates had built in advantages going in and that he will do better in bigger states that are winner-take-all in delegate allocation.

“Look these are important states. We were in Kansas yesterday, and these states have a certain profile that other candidates do better in — we recognize that. But it’s proportional,” Rubio said. “What you need to understand is that all of these states are awarding delegates by proportional. So tonight, we will have more delegates than we did last night. We continue to pick up delegates, and we’ll continue to do so.”

“This math only works better for us as we move forward into some of hte other states. The states that voted tonight are, quite frankly, some of the states that my opponents do better in, and I realized that going in,” Rubio continued. “We’re soon going to be in a winner-take-all process, and larger states, like Florida, and in other places like that, and that’s where we feel very confident as we move forward.”

Rubio made the comments during a press conference in Levittown, Puerto Rico, where he was holding a rally. During the press conference, Rubio spoke mostly in Spanish, answering a handful of questions in English too. However, he spoke Spanish exclusively during the rally.

In the first two contests called Saturday night, Rubio struggled, finishing a distant third behind Sen. Ted Cruz and Donald Trump in Kansas, while finishing last in Maine with only 8 percent.
