Alexandria residents and visitors may have noticed the city’s streets don’t seem as bright in the evenings as they used to be.
That’s no illusion: As a cost-saving measure Alexandria officials voted to shut off the holiday lights that typically twinkle year-round on the trees along King Street .
Officials turned off the lights during the weekend of June 12-13. The lights will be turned back on at the start of the holiday season in November.
