A dog who was saved from a house fire has been adopted by the veterinarian who treated her wounds.
An 11-year-old Labrador named Cotton was rescued by paramedics after getting trapped by a fire in Wilmington, Delaware, on Feb. 22. Dr. Emily Kupprion decided to give the dog a temporary home while the owner of the house recovered from injuries sustained during the fire.
“Two weeks after Cotton nearly died in a house fire she’s been discharged from the hospital,” said the Brandywine Valley SPCA in a Facebook post. “Unfortunately, her owner is still struggling after the fire; after a lot of thought and brainstorming together, he has decided to re-home Cotton. Our special girl has gotten the next best thing – adopted by the veterinarian who treated her! Here’s Dr. Emily Kupprion and one of her children leaving the hospital with Cotton last night, including a stop to get her outfitted.”
Cotton was found unresponsive at the scene, but rescue workers were able to revive her with an oxygen mask before veterinarians at the local emergency animal hospital treated her for aspiration pneumonia and eye abrasions. Cotton was reunited with first responders during a visit to the VCA Animal Hospital last week.
