Police shoot third man in six days

Baltimore City police shot a man during a domestic dispute last night ? the third man shot by city police in six days.

Just before midnight in the 1800 block of North Wolfe Street, police were called for a “domestic situation” outside a home, said police spokesman Sterling Clifford.

As an officer tried to address the situation, the male became violent toward the officer, Clifford said.

Police said the man was armed with a blunt object, but Clifford said he did not immediately know what kind of weapon he had.

The officer fired his gun, striking the suspect in the torso, according to police. The injured man is at Johns Hopkins Hospital in critical condition.

He is the 23rd man shot by city police this year.

On Aug. 30, a Baltimore police officer shot and killed a suspect while investigating a road rage incident after the man struggled with officers and tried to grab a gun, police said. On Saturday, an undercover Baltimore City police detective shot a 16-year-old after the youth pointed a gun at the officer, police said.

“It?s been a rough few days for police officers,” Clifford said. “The acting commissioner and the mayor have been very clear that everyone in this department is in this fight. These officers are going where the trouble is. They?re standing up to criminals the way we need them to.”
