Poll: Trump overtakes Hillary

Republican front-runner Donald Trump beats former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a national head-to-head matchup by 5 points, according to a new poll by SurveyUSA released Labor Day weekend.

Up until this point, Trump has trailed Clinton in every poll released despite his popularity within the Republican party.

The results show Trump leading independent voters (43-30), trailing Clinton with women (44-39) and leading with seniors (55-37.) Trump leads every age group except 18-34, where he trails Clinton by 19 points, 50-31.

The results also found the businessman defeating a slew of Democrats — Trump bests Al Gore (44-41), Joe Biden (44-42) and Bernie Sanders (44-40).

The poll surveyed 1,000 people nationwide Sept. 2 and 3, and has a margin of error of 3.3 percent.
