Brian McIntee worked his way to the top ? twice.
Area vice president of Sprint?s Mid-Atlantic area, McIntee oversees the Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C., region for the wireless communications company. But he didn?t take shortcuts. The former chief financial officer for American Personal Communications, McIntee was reassigned as a salesman following Sprint?s takeover in 1998.
But it didn?t take McIntee long to make it back to the top, and for the past several years he has been focusing on growing Sprint, and smoothing the integration of Nextel to the Sprint family.
“The challenge we have is to match customers? needs to the right product,” McIntee, 50, said. “The other challenge we face is to constantly try to improve the customer experience. The first [company that does that] is the one that wins the game.”
That is why McIntee spends just as much time on the road as in the office. Recently, he has been working to help launch Sprint?s WiMAX network in Baltimore and Washington that is expected to be up and running during the fourth quarter of this year. Nationally, he is also involved in an effort with Google to package the WiMAX network product when it launches commercially.
“We don?t offer handsets. We offer solutions,” McIntee said.
When Sprint took over McIntee?s previous company, American Personal Communications, it wanted McIntee to help bring over APC?s 250,000 customers. Demonstrating his leadership and ability to integrate clients, McIntee was integral in bringing APC?s existing clients to a budding Sprint company of about 1 million subscribers.
Through those actions, McIntee established himself as a stalwart in the region who has helped make the company a major player in the region.
Locally, Sprint has a long-standing relationship with Baltimore-based Phillips Seafood Inc.
“When looking for a service provider, flexibility and value are as important to us as quality of service. With a knowledgeable and friendly support staff, Sprint assisted with the logistical hurdles and costs associated with consolidating service plans for multiple carriers,” said Aimee Upperman-Zabinsky, IT Manager, Phillips Foods Inc. USA.
