Rogers signs out; Smoot gets dinner

White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers gave her final goodbyes Friday on the heels of an announcement that the Obama administration will host another state dinner.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon and first lady Margarita Zavala de Calderon will be feted May 19. With luck, Washington insider and newly minted Social Secretary Julianna Smoot will be ready to prove her chops by then. (Let’s just hope she’s better at watching the guest list.)

Smoot’s first day is Monday, and press secretary Robert Gibbs said Smoot will continue Rogers’ mission to make the White House the “people’s house.”

Smoot, unlike Rogers, who reportedly forgot to send Christmas cards to big fundraisers, has an extensive Rolodex that will be useful to the Obamas when it’s time for campaigning.
