15 arrested as hundreds celebrate Obama?s win

Baltimore police arrested 15 people, including some Johns Hopkins University students, who were celebrating President-elect Barack Obama’s victory in the Charles Village neighborhood.

The arrests happened around 2 a.m. Wednesday near the university.

Police spokesman Sterling Clifford said officers tried to break up a crowd of about 300 to 400 people on the street blocking traffic and the Union Memorial Hospital entrance.

Some in the crowd chanted, “These are our streets,” and acted aggressively to the officers, Clifford said.

Joseph Sviatko, a spokesman for the city state’s attorney’s office, said all charges were dropped, because the incident was “abated by arrest.”
