Three improvised explosive devices were discovered Tuesday around London transportation hubs.
Two devices were found at London Heathrow and London City airports, and a third device was found at London Waterloo, the city’s busiest rail station.
Law enforcement said the IEDs were small but appeared capable of starting an “initially small fire when opened,” and one of those packages was opened. Staff at London Heathrow Airport opened the parcel causing the device to ignite and burn part of the bag.
The other two devices were not opened and were rendered safe by police after evacuations of the areas where they were discovered.
Alastair Bunkall, a reporter for Sky News, posted a tweet purporting to show the first device that set fire at London Heathrow Airport: “Photo of one of the suspect devices – this one sent to Heathrow. It caught fire,” he said.

Investigators said Tuesday they are “treating the incidents as a linked series.” No arrests have been made in connection to the investigation.
