Report: 13 boxes of Mike Pence’s emails sent to Indiana Statehouse

Thirteen boxes of Vice President Mike Pence’s state-related emails were delivered by his attorneys to the Indiana Statehouse this week, to be archived as required by law, according to a report late Friday.

The move, reported by the Indianapolis Star, happened Thursday, the same day the publication broke the story about the former Indiana governor’s use of private email account to conduct state business. The AOL account was hacked last summer when a scammer sent an email to his contacts claiming Pence and his wife, Karen, were stranded in the Philippines and needed money.

Stephanie Wilson, a spokeswoman for current Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb, told the Indianapolis Star that state officials have yet to fully review the contents of the boxes.

“Yesterday we received a large delivery of paper documents,” Wilson said. “And we understand there is more to come.”

Some of the emails that have been released publicly show Pence discussing with state officials such matters as refugees being arrested for supporting the Islamic State and vandalism at churches around the Columbus area.

Despite the media firestorm and comparisons to Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server as secretary of state, Pence maintains he has done nothing wrong.

“We have fully complied with Indiana’s laws,” Pence told reporters in Wisconsin on Friday. “We had outside counsel review all of my previous email records to identify any that ever mentioned or referenced state business.”
