Russian officials announced Monday that the nation would suspend its diplomatic mission to NATO following NATO’s expulsion of eight consecutive Russians for spying, a report said.
The staff members at the Western military alliance’s Moscow mission are to be divested of their accreditation, and NATO’s office in Russia will be shuttered, said Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s minister of foreign affairs.
“If NATO members have any urgent matters, they can contact our ambassador in Belgium on these questions,” he added.

The eight Russians, members of Russia’s mission to NATO, were declared as “undeclared Russian intelligence officers” and expelled, NATO said in an Oct. 6 statement.
“NATO is not interested in equitable dialogue and joint work,” Lavrov said. “If that’s the case, then we don’t see the need to keep pretending that changes in the foreseeable future are possible.”

Russia’s dismissal of its officials is the most recent symptom of the decay between Russia and the West.
