Court deals a blow to gun rights groups in Pennsylvania

A Pennsylvania court struck down a law that made it easier for gun rights advocates like the National Rifle Association to challenge local gun ordinances.

The decision is drawing praise from gun control supporters and scorn from pro-gun groups.

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter praised the ruling handed down on Thursday, telling the AP through a spokesman that it will allow localities to create more laws regulating gun ownership.

A Democrat state senator who challenged the law, Daylin Leach, applauded the decision on Twitter.

“This was nothing more than an attempt to extort municipalities… #NotOneMore,” wrote Leach.

Pro-gun groups said the decision was a minor setback. An attorney representing four gun advocacy organizations told the AP he predicts that the fight against local gun control ordinances will continue in the courts or the legislature.
