Fairfax snags GeoEye’s new home

The Dulles Corner Office Center in Fairfax County soon will be home to GeoEye Inc., a satellite and aerial geospatial information and services firm.

The move includes a $10 million investment by the firm and roughly 330 more jobs for the county.

Gov. Bob McDonnell made the announcement Tuesday in Richmond. GeoEye will move its 230 employees from Loudoun County by 2011 and plans to create 100 more jobs within the next three years as part of its headquarters expansion. Virginia competed against Colorado and Maryland for the project.

“Fairfax County will provide GeoEye with a fresh, well-educated labor pool,” said Secretary of Commerce and Trade Jim Cheng. “The company outgrew its former facilities and, in moving its corporate headquarters to Fairfax, has found a space that is more flexible for the future infrastructure growth of the company.”
