Former President Barack Obama was trending on Twitter Monday, but not for good reasons.
The hashtag #ObamaGate was included in more than 2 million tweets as of Sunday evening, and the number grew by thousands each hour Monday.
The viral mention of the former president’s name appears to be a result of a tweet sent by President Trump on Sunday: A one-word, all-caps cry of scandal declaring “OBAMAGATE.”
OBAMAGATE!

Trump and his defenders have, in recent days, accused Obama of being aware of a so-called “deep state” ploy within the highest levels of federal law enforcement to undermine Trump’s campaign and eventual presidency.
“They tried to take down the president of the United States, a sitting, duly elected president of the United States before I even won,” Trump said of people in the Obama administration last week.
Trump tweeted about Russia more than 50 times over the weekend in reaction to the Justice Department dropping charges against retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who worked as a national security adviser under Trump. The federal judge overseeing the case will make the final decision on whether to dismiss it.
The Hashtag #ObamaGate had over 2 Million Tweets last night and was still getting over 100,000 Tweets in the last hour.
