President Trump’s campaign manager told Senate Republicans that Minnesota and New Mexico, two states won by Hillary Clinton in 2016, will be in play this year.
Showcasing voter data and cost estimates, Trump campaign chief Brad Parscale told Republicans during a Washington meeting at the headquarters of the GOP Senate campaign arm, the National Republican Senatorial Committee, that the electoral map is set to expand further into blue territory than it did in 2016.
Parsacle argued that blue states such as Minnesota or New Mexico could be competitive for Republicans, a lawmaker in attendance told Politico.
“He’s very meticulous and is working hard to put a plan in place,” Arkansas Sen. John Boozman said after the meeting.
Parscale said the campaign opened 15 urban field offices in an effort to double the 8% support that Trump received from black voters in 2016.
“They’ve been working hard. Whereas last time was kind of spontaneous, this time has been fully prepared,” Louisiana Sen. Bill Cassidy said on Wednesday. “They’ve got states, the pathway to victory that we all know they have, and they may be expanding the field some.”
