Happy holidays! And also, happy honing days! If you haven’t been following Noradsanta.org‘s Santa Claus tracker, you’re in for a bit of fun.
For example, it’s 12 minutes to 3 p.m., and guess where Santa is? Mina Jabal Ali in the United Arab Emirates.
NORAD — the U.S.-Canadian military organization responsible for the aerospace and maritime defense of both countries — has tracked Santa for more than 50 years. According to the website, the tradition began in 1955 “after a Colorado Springs-based Sears Roebuck & Co. advertisement for children to call Santa misprinted the telephone number. Instead of reaching Santa, the phone number put kids through to the CONAD Commander-in-Chief’s operations hotline.”
How does NORAD predict Santa’s location? “Radar, satellites, Santa Cams and fighter jets.” Gotta love it.
