The New York Daily News’ latest edition argues no American citizen should be allowed to purchase a style of rifle that is already banned from commercial sale.
The front-page features a picture of Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., from when he served in Iraq with the United States Marines. Moulton is seen in his military gear, wearing a Boston Red Sox cap and carrying a fully automatic M-4 rifle.

“NO CIVILIAN SHOULD OWN THIS GUN,” the headline read.
“Hey, NRA: This Marine served in Iraq and he says assault rifles should be banned. Does that make him a gun-grabbing commie, too?” the front-page continued in its naked appeal to martial authority.
The rifle featured in the photo is banned from commercial sales, and it is already illegal for someone to sell or purchase one for a civilian.
In an op-ed for the Daily News, Moulton himself never suggested the M-4 could be legally purchased.
The Daily News’ headline writers are responsible for that bit of misinformation.
The Boston Globe also announced Wednesday evening its latest edition would feature an anti-gun front-page. Unlike the Daily News, however, the Globe’s headline writers and graphics department didn’t reveal a lack of basic knowledge of firearms and existing gun laws.

The Daily News’ editorial board is a longtime opponent of the National Rifle Association, and has compared the gun rights group to terrorist organizations including the Islamic State.
