Reagan’s son: It’s a ‘disservice’ to compare Trump to my dad

The son of former President Reagan thinks it does a disservice to modern politicians to keep comparing them to his father and people like President Trump need to create their own legacies.

Michael Reagan said Friday night at the Conservative Political Action Conference that it’s time for the comparisons between any new prominent Republican politician and the 40th president need to stop.

“In my opinion, no one’s going to stand up to Ronald Reagan,” he said. “And, I think in some ways it does a disservice to people to always try and qualify and put them up against my father, because they’ll pare in comparison.”

He added, “I think when they do this with Donald Trump it takes away from what Donald Trump may in fact accomplish as president of the United States.”

As nice as it is to look back at Reagan’s time in office, it’s time to move on, he said.

“I don’t think we do any service for ourselves trying to pit tomorrow’s candidates against my father of the 1980s,” Michael Reagan said.
