President Obama played “Purple Rain” and “Delirious” Friday morning while preparing for his meeting with British Prime Minister David Cameron, as a tribute to Prince’s passing and to “get warmed up” for his day.
“I love Prince because he put out great music and he was a great performer,” Obama told reporters during a press conference in London with Cameron. “I didn’t know him well. He came to perform at the White House last year and was extraordinary … full of energy.”
“So it’s a remarkable loss,” Obama concluded.
Obama explained how he was able to play some of Prince’s songs while staying at the Winfield House, which is the U.S. ambassador’s residence.
“It so happens that the ambassador has a turntable,” he said. “So this morning we played ‘Purple Rain’ and ‘Delirious’ just to get warmed up before we left the house for important bilateral meetings like this.”
