Monday’s notes from Redskins Park

» Redskins defensive end Jason Taylor considers himself a fast healer. He’ll need to be if he wants to continue his streak of consecutive games played, now at 130 and counting.

His sprained knee is expected to sideline him from 10 to 14 days, placing him in jeopardy of missing the Sept. 4 season opener at the New York Giants.

“I have been a quick healer in the past,” he said. “People think I’m old; I’m not that old yet. So hopefully those healing cells are still in there.”

Taylor said he’s played with sprained MCLs, a broken arm and broken thumbs.

“To play through those games and always show up on Sundays is something I do take pride in,” he said, “but some things are out of our control.”

The Redskins don’t want him to return for the opener only to re-injure it and miss the next several games — or more.

» The Redskins waived/injured linebacker Matt Sinclair, who was out with a back injury. They also cut receiver Burl Toler. Washington likely will cut its final 22 players Friday.

» Redskins defensive coordinator Greg Blache on how his unit looked in the 47-3 loss to Carolina: “They looked like a bunch of drunken cow pokes trying to do a Texas two-step with one leg. It was ugly. … We played against a good team that exposed some of our weaknesses.”

Player to watch » LaRon Landry, safety

The Redskins starting free safety will not play against Jacksonville Thursday, but he did return to the practice field Monday. Still, he said he won’t really know his status for the opener until he fully tests his pulled hamstring in practice next week. Landry estimated his hamstring was around “93 percent.” He broke up a couple passes in practice.

QB watch » Jason Campbell

The starting offense has issues, mostly along the line. They have not protected Campbell well enough. But you also have to wonder if Campbell fits with this line; he likes to go downfield, but this line would be helped by more dinks and dunks, at least initially. In the past three quarters, the Redskins’ No. 1 offense has managed 119 yards and three points on 41 plays compared to 366 yards and 41 points on 46 plays for the opposing offense during that same stretch.
